Mulberry Deserts Recipe – How to Prepare Mulberry Cobbler

dscf2773Mulberries can be consumed fresh or you can use them to prepare a delicious dessert for you and your family. One of the best Mulberry deserts recipes is the mulberry cobbler. This dessert is not only very delicious, it is also very nutritious. Here is the recipe for six servings.

 

 

Mulberry Deserts Recipe

   Ingredients:

2 cups of mulberries (can be black, white or red)

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup and 1 tablespoon of sugar (white)

2 tablespoons of dark brown sugar

1 ¼ cup of self-rising flour

Tablespoon of nutmeg

1 table spoon lemon zest

Cup of unsalted butter

1 tablespoon of vanilla extract

Cooking spray

1 ¼ cup of whole milk

Directions:

1. Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place a rack in the center of the oven.

2.Take a medium sized bowl and mix the mulberries with the brown sugar. Let the mixture rest for about 15 minutes.

3.Take another medium-sized bowl and combine 1 cup of white sugar with salt, lemon zest, flour and the nutmeg. Stir well until all the ingredients blend.

4. In a small pan, heat the butter over a medium heat until it completely melts. Add the vanilla extract to the melted butter.

5. Pour the butter mix into the bowl with flour. Add your milk and stir with a rubber spatula until everything is well combined. The flour should be fully mixed in and the batter will be wet and cake-like.

6. Spray a nine-inch baking tin with the cooking spray.

7. Pour your butter into the baking pan. Spread the butter evenly over the bottom of the pan.

8. Sprinkle the mulberries evenly over the butter. Remember to include any juice that has collected in the bowl.

9. Sprinkle the remaining white sugar over the berries and batter and place your mixture on a center rack in your oven.

10. Let it bake for one hour, until the top of the cobbler has turned a golden yellow and the edges a caramel brown.

As the cobbler bakes, the mulberries will release more juice and will sink down creating pockets of juice and fruit in the batter. Since the mulberries sink during the baking, the batter at the top of the pan becomes the cobbler ‘topping’.

You can top your cobbler with a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream or any other ice cream depending on your preference.

11. Serve your desert room temperature.

Important Tips

If you use white or red mulberries, add extra 1-2 tablespoons of sugar to sweeten the berries. If you will use the black mulberries, one tablespoon of sugar will do.
